The institute is, in fact, in charge of controlling the entire vaccine production chain in Morocco. The result of a public-private partnership, this project aims to start in the short term with a production capacity of 5 million doses of Covid19 vaccine per month, before gradually increasing this capacity in the medium term. It will mobilize a global investment of around $ 500 million.
In partnership with China, Morocco wants to position itself as a manufacturer of anti-Covid vaccines and other serums necessary for immunity in order to first ensure the self-sufficiency of the Kingdom. The project aims in the medium term to make Morocco a leading biotechnology platform on the African continent and the world in the field of the "fill & finish" industry.
The Moroccan Sothema laboratory is now ready for the production of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine. The factory, responsible for the production of the anti-Covid vaccine, is waiting for the green light to start its activity. The pharmaceutical company has started, for a few weeks now, to receive the composition of the vaccine developed by the Chinese group Sinopharm.
The Chinese scientists had previously supervised the installation operation of the production lines. Thus, Morocco is preparing to take a decisive step to enter the closed circle of major producers of the anti-covid-19 vaccine.
